The Appleton Police Department honors all of its officers that responded to the Fox River Mall shooting. Fifteen officers in all receive the Distinguished Service Award. That includes Officer Cody Lerum who was off-duty and in the mall at the time of the shooting last January. He ran to his vehicle–got his service pistol–and engaged the alleged gunman.
