8 rescue from ice floe on Green Bay near Peshtigo
Eight people are safe after being rescued from an ice floe in the Bay of Green Bay Sunday evening. Fire fighters from Little River and Oconto were notified around 6:45 P-M of an emergency at North Bay Shore County Park near Peshtigo. Fire crews were able to get one person off of the ice floe using a flat-bottomed boat as the ice was moving out into the bay. Air boats from the U.S. Coast Guard, Marinette Fire Department and Bayside Ice and Marine Recovery were called in to retrieve the remaining seven people. By the time the airboats reached the ice floe it was a mile-and-a-half offshore.
