APPLETON, Wis–The city of Appleton no longer has a “big head”. The public art installation formally known as “The Collective” was removed from its place at the west end of the College Avenue Bridge last week.
“The Collective” was a large head made up of used propane tanks with painted faces. It was installed by the Sculpture Valley group in 2019 to mixed response from the community.
“The Collective” actually stayed beyond its initial two year lease due to the artist not being able to come and get it during the pandemic. During the pandemic, the head was fitted with a cloth face mask. Sculpture Valley is looking for a new art display to go in that spot.
