OSHKOSH, Wis–Winnebago County is looking to spend a million dollars to build living quarters for violent sex offenders. Under state code 980, counties are responsible for finding suitable housing for offenders that are being released from previous commitments or prison sentences.
Under a plan presented by County Executive Jon Doemel, apartment units would be built on property adjacent to the current county landfill in Oshkosh, with other potential uses in the future………….
Winnebago County is currently housing two violent sex offenders in a mobile home near the Sheriff’s Department building–and several others in private housing in rural parts of the county.
