(OSHKOSH,WI)–The Oshkosh Area School District talks equity and diversity. The board of education conducted a workshop on equity–just weeks after a complaint was filed against the district alleging pervasive racial discrimination in the district.
The board learned about two problems that particularly affect minority students: chronic absenteeism and out-of-school suspensions. Citing recent data, district director of curriculum and assessment Julie Conrad says the district has work to do.
Board Vice President Dr. Barbara Herzog says the district needs to do a better job of listening to parents.
According to recent data, the district has seen a nearly 10-percent increase in the number of students of color since the 2015-16 school year.
