MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin takes legal action over PFAS contamination.
Gov. Tony Evers and Attorney General Josh Kaul file a lawsuit against three manufacturers and 15 other defendants for what they call “wrongful, deceptive and tortious conduct” that led to contamination of water, property and natural resources.
The lawsuit alleges the defendants knew or should have known that the use of their products would lead to dangerous impacts on health and the environment.
Evers says the issue of PFAS is felt statewide.
“Communities across our state, from Marinette, to Wausau, to La Crosse, are facing the harsh reality of PFAS in their wells, causing residents to have to rely on water coolers and plastic bottles for clean drinking water,” Evers said. “Relying on the Culligan man for clean drinking water isn’t a solution, it’s a Band-Aid. And we must do more to protect the people of our state. Period.”
PFAS are man-made chemicals that were used for decades in several products, including non-stick cookware, fast food wrappers, stain-resistant sprays and certain types of firefighting foam.
