MADISON, Wis–The race for governor in Wisconsin this year has seen a record amount of spending. According to figures compiled by the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, the campaigns of Tony Evers, Tim Michels and political action committees a total of $114.6-million dollars has been spent this year. Evers has spent $37-million. Michels’ campaign has spent $24.5 million.
The leading PACs in terms of spending are Right Direction Wisconsin–which is run by the Republican Governors Association–with $9.3-million dollars; Americans for Prosperity–which has spent $5.4-million; and A Better Wisconsin Together with $5.1-million in attack ads.
Final numbers on campaign spending will come with finance reports filed in January.
