Two hunters died on the opening day of the gun-deer season.
Marquette County Sheriff’s deputies say a 57-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound in his ground blind. The Marquette County man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 62-year-old Shawano County man was found dead in his tree stand on private property in the Town of Westfield by a member of his hunting party. The coroner says an autopsy shows he died of natural causes.
There were also three gun accidents over opening weekend of the season.
DNR regional safety warden Mark Little says a 49-year-old man was shot in the right ankle in Brown County on Saturday morning. He says the man’s gun off while he was working on it.
A 49-year-old Crandon man was hit in the legs when his rifle went off in Forest County. Authorities say he was in his truck, and he was moving the gun when he saw a deer.
The third incident was in Shawano County. A 51-year-old man shot himself in the leg when his holstered handgun fired while he was bending over.
