OSHKOSH, Wis–An October 14th trial date is set for a Fremont man accused of killing his parents. Erik Metzig is charged in Winnebago County Court with two counts of First Degree Intentional Homicide.
Metzig allegedly shot his parents, David and Jan, to death in their home back in March of last year. Metzig has entered a plea of “not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect”, meaning he will undergo a two-phase trail. The jury will first be asked to determine if Metzig committed the crimes, and then if he was mentally competent at the time.
Metzig would face life in prison if convicted and found to be sane.
