For the last 2 weeks, the story that has captivated the nation surrounds a large group of Americans that have barely even entered adulthood.
Nationwide, college students have begun protests calling for their respective campuses to divest from any weapons manufacturers currently aiding Israel in its assault on Gaza.
Nothing is ever this black and white though. Claims of violence, Anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, and outside agitators go hand in hand with the current protests.
Many of the claims that we hear are often times second or even third hand stories though, and I thought it would be important to get a first hand accounting of what happened at UW Madison on Wednesday.
Tyler Katzenberger is a senior at UW Madison, and the former managing editor with the Daily Cardinal.
He was on site during the protests and he provided my listeners with what he was able to see and learn over the course of the last 24 hours.
This isn’t where that segment ends though.
After we wrapped up, I received a call from an un-named Gen X vet who shared a different opinion about the protests.
He wondered out loud where these protests were ultimately going to end, and shared his experience and thoughts about America’s war time attitudes.
And the best part? Both parties were very respectful and provided tremendous perspective.
