APPLETON, Wis. — Criminal charges will not be filed against an Outagamie County sheriff’s deputy in connection with a fatal shooting incident.
The district attorney’s office finds that Sgt. Ellis Brooks was justified in shooting William Nelson back on April 12.
Nelson was allegedly trying to stab people with a knife following a traffic crash in the 2800 block of W. Prospect Avenue in Grand Chute. After efforts to subdue him with a taser were unsuccessful, Brooks fired at and struck Nelson, who would later die from his injuries.
