APPLETON, Wis. — After further consideration, the Appleton Common Council votes to ban smoking anywhere on the block surrounding the public library.
The proposal was brought up for reconsideration this week after failing to get the two-thirds vote necessary for passage last month.

Previously, smokers had a small area in the library parking lot where they could light up. That spot will be adjacent to the new children’s garden at the remodeled library when it opens next year.
Someone looking to smoke in the library area will now need to go to the Yellow Lot parking ramp block.
