GREEN BAY, WI — A long-planned development kitty corner to Lambeau Field is closer to reality. The Green Bay Common Council approves a request for a commercial building and an apartment development. Council members approved a Plan Commission request for a Planned Unit Development at 1835 Ridge Road and 1820 Frank Street. What’s currently used by the Green Bay Packers for game day parking would give way to a commercial building planned by Tim Kuehn and an eight-unit apartment building Kuehn is developing for another owner. A separate short-term rental project is being developed by Michael Coppens. Neighbors like John Cordry say the size of some of those buildings are a detriment for himself and other long-time residents.
Other concerns include possible flooding from an underground storm water storage area and running a driveway to Frank and Thorndale Streets rather than Lombardi Avenue. Brad Rymer, the project manager with Vierbicher explained how the project design evolved.
Neighbors like Tricia Garrison support the development of a driveway directly onto Lombardi Avenue rather than through Frank and Thorndale Streets. She also believes the city should wait a bit longer before adopting a final ordinance.
Alder Chris Wery believes all concerns have been addressed and it’s time to consider the benefits to all property owners.
The common council approved zoning the Planned Unit Development and the first reading of the zoning ordinance. The second reading is expected to take place when the council meets in February.
