OMRO, Wis. — Nine municipalities in Winnebago County are joining together to pay for ambulance service.
The city and town of Omro, the town and village of Winneconne, Black Wolf, Nekimi, Poygan, Rushford and Utica have formed an ambulance district that will be served by Lifestar.
Earlier this year, the city of Oshkosh informed the other municipalities that it would no longer provide ambulance service, citing staffing shortages and the time commitment to serve outlying areas.
The new service will be funded by a $40 per resident fee collected by the municipalities.
