APPLETON, Wis. — The Appleton Fire Department discourages the use of fire blankets in the home.
The products are marketed as a way to safely and quickly put out a residential fire.
But in a Facebook post, Appleton fire says the blankets require someone to get too close to the flames to be used effectively.
They say the best way to try to put out a small fire in the home is to use an extinguisher.
Fire blankets could be used if someone’s clothing were to catch on fire.
