TOWN OF GREEN VALLEY, Wis. — One person is dead following a police shooting in Shawano County.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home along State Highway 22 in the town of Green Valley around 1:40 a.m. Tuesday on the report of a disturbance.
They arrived to find a man locked in a bathroom. He reportedly refused to leave and told them he had a gun.
Following unsuccessful attempts to use less-lethal force, the suspect allegedly approached deputies, armed with what appeared to be a gun. One deputy fired at and struck him. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounce dead. No one else was hurt.
The deputy is on administrative leave, per Shawano County Sheriff’s Office policies.
The state Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident.
