The lineup for the next season at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center is out, and it features six Broadway shows.
“The Lion King” will be back for three weeks in February of next year. It will be the third time the big show will be in downtown Appleton, and the first time since 2013.
PAC President Maria Van Laanen says “Something Rotten!” will kick off the season in October. She says it’s set in 1595. She says two brothers write the first musical after a soothsayer foretells the future of theater. She says there are references to many shows throughout Broadway history, including ones that played at the PAC.
Van Laanen says “The Play That Goes Wrong” will be coming at the end of April. She calls it “gut-splitting” and while it’s a play, it’s also a comedy.
“Come from Away” is making its Wisconsin premiere in April of next year. Van Laanen says it’s based on the true story of a town in Newfoundland that took in 7,000 stranded airplane passengers after 9-11. She says that almost doubled the size of the city, and it’s a heart-lifting story.
“Fiddler on the Roof” will return to the PAC in November.
“Anastasia” will be there in January of next year. Van Laanen says it’s a mix of the two movies of the same name.
