Rural schools around the state will be able to get some extra money.
Governor Walker signed a bill yesterday letting districts use a mix of property tax increases and additional state aid to spend an extra 300 dollars per student. That will take effect for the next school year. The amount will go up by another 100 dollars a year for four more years. Walker says it shouldn’t matter where they live; every child should have access to a great education.
Walker is also giving almost 150 districts an additional 100 dollars per student through another program. Districts can’t have more than 745 students to qualify. They also need to have fewer than 10 students per square mile.
