A 29-year-old man is pleading not guilty in Winnebago County, in the first case to be charged after the state started collecting untested sexual assault kits.
Aaron Heiden faces counts of second- and third-degree sexual assault for an incident nearly 10 years ago.
Prosecutors say a woman was assaulted in the former town of Menasha. They say her fingernail clippings were in the kit, and DNA matched Heiden. They say his DNA was in a database.
They say Heiden told investigators he’s from Appleton, and he would come home from college during the summer.
