A state lawmaker doesn’t expect widespread sports gambling in Wisconsin in the wake of yesterday’s U.S. Supreme Court decision.
Justices threw out a federal ban. Republican Senator Roger Roth of Appleton says it’s possible the tribal casinos could try to add sports books. He says he thinks they’ll work with their federal counterparts to start the process.
The state would have to sign off on sports gambling in casinos. Roth says lawmakers and voters would have to approve a constitutional amendment to allow it in other places. He doesn’t think there’s a desire from the public or lawmakers to pursue that.
