The Wisconsin Primary Elections have ended, and the results are in. On the Democratic side, State Superintendent of Schools Tony Evers will face off against Republican incumbent Scott Walker for the position of Governor, while union worker Randy “Iron Stache” Bryce will take on Republican Brian Steil for the House of Representatives Senate seat long held by House Speaker Paul Ryan. Meanwhile, Republican Leah Vukmir will face off against Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin for the U.S. Senate seat.
Democratic turnout has garnered plenty of reactions from leaders across the state. The head of Wisconsin’s leading immigrant rights group, Voces de la Frontera, issued a statement proclaiming “sweeping victories for [the] immigrant rights movement in Wisconsin primary elections.” Jay Inslee, chair of the Democratic Governors Association, congratulated Tony Evers on his victory by stating “After eight years of Governor Walker’s divisiveness and warped priorities that put his own political career ahead of Wisconsin’s schools, roads, and health care, it’s time for new leadership. And Tony is just the right person for the job.”
As reported by the Star Tribune, turnout for the Wisconsin Primary Elections has reached 22.1 percent, with a total of 994,000 out of roughly 4.5 million voting-age adults. This is the highest turnout since the 22.5 percent in 2002.
