A matching grant challenge that gives food to children for weekends is coming to a close.
The St. Joseph Food Program provides meals in six school districts, including Appleton, Kaukauna, Neenah and Menasha.
Spokeswoman Karen Ziemke says the kids get brown bags with 10 or 11 individually sized healthy snacks. She says they’re packing about 600 bags each week, and they were up to 900 at the end of last year. She says at this rate, they’ll exceed that number.
Ziemke says they provide meals for children in 45 schools.
The $10,000 matching grant challenge ends Saturday.
