As election day gets closer third party groups are sending out mailings encouraging people to register or request absentee ballots, but sometimes it contains inaccurate information.
Appleton city clerk Kami Lynch says the information usually comes from a political party or special interest group. She says people don’t have to do anything with mailings that don’t come from the Wisconsin Elections Commission or their local clerk. She says people get registration forms with misspelled names or wrong information, but that doesn’t mean they have their records wrong. She says groups get voter lists and make those errors.
She says these groups probably think they’re helping voters to increase participation, but sometimes they don’t do it the right way. Lynch says people can request absentee ballots in person or on-line. In person voting in Appleton starts October 22nd.
