Prosecutors believe a former Sturgeon Bay man charged with killing his wife 43 years ago had a history of abusing her.
82-year-old Richard Pierce of Cheboygan, Michigan was arrested yesterday. 35-year-old Carol Jean Pierce went missing in September of 1975.
Captain Dan Brinkman is with the Sturgeon Bay police department. He says everyone who has worked on the case is happy to see the results. He says it’s pretty remarkable after such a long investigation.
Brinkman says police were searching Richard’s property in hopes of finding Carol Jean’s body. He says they also did a search 10 years ago.
Prosecutors say Carol Jean told a friend she was worried her husband would kill her.
