The Green Bay Packers will match up to $250,000 dollars in donations to pay for a new swimming beach at Bay Beach in Green Bay.
Mayor Jim Schmitt and Packers CEO Mark Murphy made the announcement yesterday at the Lambeau Field Atrium.
Schmitt says this will be the last fundraising effort for the park for years to come. He says once the fundraising campaign is done the parts are put in motion, the city won’t need to do anything out there for another 50-75 years. He says it’ll be the attraction that the community wants it to be.
The entire project is expected to cost about $7 million. It’ll include a 1000 foot sand beach, a pier, a shoreline walkway, a concession stand, and a bathhouse.
The city has already gotten the permits to start the project. Construction is scheduled to begin next year.
