Manitowoc fire officials say a pet cat died in a house fire yesterday afternoon.
They say the family was able to get out safely but the cat died of smoke inhalation.
Efforts to revive the pet were unsuccessful.
Officials believe a portable heater started the fire.
The home is in the 1100 block of South 25th Street.
Crews were called around 4:30 p.m.
No damage estimate was given.
