A group gave people a chance to get together for a Christmas meal in Appleton yesterday.
We Care Meals held the annual event at Riverview Gardens. Organizers had enough food for about 2,800 people.
James Haig was one of the dozens of volunteers. He says he wanted to give back because the meal helped him, during low points in his past.
Haig says there were times he was just lonely, sitting in a homeless shelter, with nowhere to go. He says people were kind enough to sit down and just ask how his day was going.
Volunteers also delivered food to people. Organizer Ed Rathsack says about half of the meals are served that way.
There was a free Christmas Day meal in Oshkosh at Father Carr’s Place 2B, as well.
