The leader of Grand Chute is reacting to the decision by Sears to close its store in the Fox River Mall.
Town Chair David Schowalter says it’s a sad situation but people knew it was going to happen. He says a lot of online buying hurts stores. He says people should keep in mind that the mall is one of the strongest that the corporation that owns it has. Schowalter says he believes the mall will still prosper.
The retailer is closing 80 Sears and KMart locations around the country.
The Fox River Mall store is closing in March. It’s the second anchor store to close this year. Younkers shut its doors in spring. JC Penney, Macy’s, Target, and Scheels are the four remaining anchor stores in the mall.
