A museum in downtown Appleton won the highest national honor for museums and libraries earlier this year.
The History Museum at the Castle’s National Medal for Museum and Library Service was one of the top local stories of 2018.
Chief Curator Dustin Mack says there were 29 finalists, and they were one of 10 recipients. He says the award takes into account community service and partnerships. He says they were recognized in part for local exhibits on homelessness and mental illness.
It was part of a big year for the museum. The Pro Football Hall of Fame brought its Gridiron Glory exhibit to the museum, and it’s open through January 6th.
The National Railroad Museum in the Green Bay area was also one of the finalists for the national award.
