Appleton police say New Year’s Eve is a red letter day on their calendar, and they’ll have extra officers patrolling the city on foot and in squad cars.
Capt. Todd Freeman says the potential for bad weather, and the risk of people over-indulging and driving, is not a good combination. He says every arrest and every crash that’s alcohol related reminds them they have more work to do.
Freeman calls the foot patrol in the downtown their bread and butter. He says they use early intervention and problem solving to get people home before they cause a problem.
