The City of Appleton closed the Blue Ramp on New Year’s Day.
The six-story parking ramp is attached to City Center Plaza.
With that closure, 400 parking spaces in downtown will be lost.
The city’s director of public works says it’s going to take a couple of months to remove asbestos and prepare the structure for demolition.
Paula Vandehey says they’re going to plant grass in spring and hope for future development.
She says the 55-year-old ramp is at the end of its useful life.
Vandehey says the parking spaces lost can be absorbed by spots around the area.
