A Manitowoc police officer is being cleared of any criminal charges in a police shooting last September.
Twenty-five-year-old Bruce Smith was shot while firefighters and police officers were responding to a fire at an apartment complex.
The Manitowoc County District Attorneys office says Smith was acting strangely, and he lunged at an officer with a lighter. Prosecutors say the officer hit Smith with a stun gun, but it had no effect.
They say Smith then came back at the officer with a metal blade. They say the officer shot him, because the officer thought it was a knife. It turned out to be a metal paint scraper.
An autopsy showed Smith had meth and amphetamine in his system.
