There’s a new governor in the state.
Democratic Governor Tony Evers was sworn in, during a ceremony in the Capitol rotunda this afternoon.
He called for putting people before politics. He says the state has become paralyzed by polarity, and content with division. He says they need to put people first, and set aside political interests and personal ambitions to work together on solving problems.
Evers is the state’s 46th governor.
He stressed the need to fully fund schools, from all-day pre-kindergarten to the university and technical college systems. He says he’ll also focus on ways to make health care affordable, and find a long-term solution to fix the state’s roads.
Evers defeated Republican Governor Scott Walker in the November election.
