A new state lawmaker in the Assembly took the oath of office yesterday.
Republican Rep. Shae Sortwell is from the Two Rivers area. He won the election in the 2nd District in November.
Sortwell says criminal justice reform will be one of his priorities. He believes they can reach a bipartisan deal on a system that brings justice, and still finds a way to integrate people back into society.
Sortwell says it was amazing to stand of the floor of the Assembly yesterday to take the oath.
He’s taking over for Republican Andre Jacque of De Pere. Jacque gave up the seat, and he won the race for the 1st Senate District.
