Shopko is closing its store in Seymour.
Mayor Ryan Kraft says a company spokeswoman confirmed the Hometown store will shut down by April 7th.
He says after the store opened, more than seven years ago, people didn’t have to go to the Appleton or Green Bay areas to buy some things. He says the store also brought people from nearby rural communities to Seymour, and that helped some of the other businesses.
The Shopko store had a pharmacy inside. It closed on January 2nd. Kraft says it’s the first time in decades that there isn’t a pharmacy in the city where people can go to fill their prescriptions.
He says he’s disappointed that the retailer didn’t reach out to his office. But given recent reports about the company’s finances, Kraft says he’s not sure the city could’ve helped change the decision.
