Calumet County’s new sheriff is on the job.
Sheriff Mark Wiegert says he’s been preparing for the position for years. He says one of his priorities to improve how they respond to active shooters.
Wiegert says he’s also needs to fill several positions, and he’s facing the same challenges as other departments, in recruiting candidates.
Wiegert has been with the department for about 25 years, and he was unopposed in the November election.
Former Sheriff Mark Ott retired after eight years in the top spot.
