Appleton school administrators want to create a task force to develop a plan for the district’s truancy system.
Superintendent Judy Baseman presented some recommendations this morning on how to move forward. The truancy court is suspended for the rest of the year.
Baseman wants to have 20 to 25 people on the task force, and they would meet throughout the second semester. The members would include community partners, students, and parents.
Baseman says they want to see what’s working right now, and what are some things that they need to do differently. She says they’ll also look at how other districts handle truancy issues, and learn from them.
Outagamie County judges won’t be involved in the truancy court anymore. The district is reviewing the system, after parents and students raised concerns about how they were treated during truancy hearings.
