Officials at a local emergency veterinary center want people to know more about where blood for pets who need extra come from.
Lisa Peters is the medical director for Fox Valley Animal Referral Center in Appleton.
She says just like people, sick or injured animals may need a blood transfusion.
Peters says many of the staff at the center have their pets enrolled in a blood donor program and it’s something they may open to the community.
Peters say they get blood from regional blood banks across the nation but having access to an emergency supply will save lives.
She says they’re still working out the details including donor compensation and requirements.
