Appleton schools now have a food sharing table for students to give away things they’re not going to eat.
Diane Wittman of the district’s business services department says the food has to be prepackaged, and it can’t be from outside of the school. She says the goal is to reduce waste, and help kids if they need a little extra to eat.
If kids bring their own lunch from home, they can take food from the sharing table, but they can’t add anything that’s not from inside the school.
Wittman says they’ll bring any leftover food to their after-school programs, or donate it to the Salvation Army.
