There won’t be as many permits available for this year’s black bear hunting season.
The state Natural Resources Board unanimously agreed to issue nearly 11,600 permits. That’s down almost 11 percent from last year.
The DNR says the bear population is declining in the north, and they’ve had more hunters in the south. Hunters killed 3,600 bears last year.
