Attorney General Josh Kaul is rejecting a directive from Governor Evers to withdraw Wisconsin from a multi-state lawsuit seeking repeal of the federal health care reform law.
Kaul sent a letter to Evers today, saying he can’t do that without approval of Republican lawmakers.
Evers announced his directive during his State of the State address on Tuesday, and he reversed himself yesterday. Evers said he wasn’t directing Kaul to take any specific course of action.
A law passed by Republicans in last month’s lame-duck session gives authority to the Legislature’s GOP-controlled budget committee to decide on withdrawing.
