The two homeless shelters in the Fox Cities are seeing record numbers of people.
Scott Peeples of Pillars says they’ve been helping about 160 people a night. He says usually, the homeless population goes down in the winter months.
Right now, Peeples believes there are more homeless people in the area than ever before. He says that’s forcing them to stretch the capacities at their shelters in downtown Appleton and Grand Chute. He’s says they’ve been completely full, every night.
During the day, the Pillars Day Resource Center at St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church is open. That’s on Mason Street in Appleton, just south of College Avenue.
Peeples says it’s important to have on a day like today, when the Salvation Army and Appleton library are closed.
