Grand Chute leaders are asking Outagamie County to lower the speed limit on a stretch of College Avenue.
It’s currently 55 miles an hour at McCarthy Road, between the Fox River Mall and Appleton International Airport.
Police Capt. Mike Velie says they’ve seen more crashes at that spot over the past few years, with Costco and other businesses moving in. He says because it’s a high-speed intersection, the injuries are usually serious.
The town board is asking for a 45 mile-an-hour limit.
Outagamie County plans to rebuild that stretch of College Avenue in 2020, and a roundabout will be going in at the intersection. Velie says the speed limit will be lowered to 45 at that point, so they hope the county will reduce it right now.
