The leader of Winnebago County says it looks like a regional facility for juvenile offenders will be in Fond du Lac County.
County Executive Mark Harris says teens would go there after the Lincoln Hills prison closes. He says a single 24-bed facility would meet the needs for northeast Wisconsin.
Harris says the other counties would rent space from Fond du Lac County. He says Winnebago, Outagamie, and Calumet counties would send young inmates there.
Former Governor Scott Walker signed a law to shut down the troubled Lincoln Hills prison by 2021. There were reports this week that Governor Evers might ask for a two-year extension.
