Local greenhouses are expecting to see higher heating bills from trying to keep their plants alive in the bitter cold.
Bob Aykens is a co-owner of Memorial Florists in Appleton. He expects a high bill for their 40,000 square feet of greenhouses. He says they’ve seen heating bills up to $12,000 a month depending on the winter.
Greenhouses aren’t insulated like normal homes. Aykens says if the sun isn’t out it’s even harder to keep temperatures up.
