With a quick warm up expected this weekend, local fire departments are gearing up for more calls from home and business owners after frozen water pipes start to thaw and crack.
Green Bay assistant fire chief Robert Goplin worries that water can leak into an electrical panels and cause a fire. He believes it’s important for firefighters to know when a fire sprinkler is damaged. He says they won’t have any assistance from a fire sprinkler. He says that means they’re aware the fire won’t be controlled until they get there and put water on it.
Goplin advises people to check pipes that are connected to an outside wall or an unheated area. He says it’s less expensive to fix a pipe than deal with water damage.
