The DNR says there’s a record number of bald eagle nests in the state.
The agency found almost 1700 nests and that’s up more than 100 from 2017.
DNR Ecologist Joe Henry says most of the nests are in southern Wisconsin. He says that means there are more opportunities for the birds in that area and they’re adapting more to humans.
Bald eagle nests were found in 71 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties. The only one without them was Milwaukee County.
The DNR is investigating the shooting of a federally-protected eagle in Manitowoc County in the Mishicot area.
