While Governor Evers says it wouldn’t be “ideal” to delay the shutdown of the state’s troubled youth prison, they can’t rush the process.
Evers wants to put more funding in his proposed budget for guards at the understaffed Lincoln Hills. He’s pushing to make sure they’re properly trained, and not overworked.
The state plans to replace the prison with smaller, regional facilities.
Current state law calls for Lincoln Hills to close by 2021. Evers says they might have to delay that by one or two years.
