Its proximity to Wittman Regional Airport continues to hamper redevelopment of the former Aviation Plaza site in Oshkosh.
City Manager Mark Rohloff says being on a flight path puts strict limits on what can be built there now. He says they can’t even put in a Subway restaurant on the land that’s south of the former Walmart.
Rohloff adds that the city is working with Winnebago County to possibly rezone the Aviation Plaza site, to allow different types of development.
The demolition of the former Pioneer Inn building in Oshkosh is also giving some people hope that new development is on the way soon. Rohloff says people need to be patient, because they want to do it right.
Decade Properties continues to own the Pioneer site, but Oshkosh developer Art Dumke holds an option to buy the property. He doesn’t have any definite plans for a new project.
