The 16-day sturgeon spearing season starts Saturday and the DNR is unsure about the water quality in Lake Winnebago.
The state agency hasn’t had a chance to check because of poor ice conditions and frigid temperatures.
Fisheries Biologist Ryan Koenigs says they’ve heard some reports from anglers. He says in Oshkosh there are reports of six to 10 feet of visibility. He says some areas have clarity up to 12 feet but mostly around 10 or 11 feet
Koenigs adds that runoff can change water quality quickly so conditions might change by Saturday.
